Earned wage access – A global study on benefits and risks

This report provides an overview of Earned Wage Access (EWA) services and assesses their potential benefits and risks for both workers and employers. It also examines how they interact with labour and financial regulations. The findings are intended to support regulators, employers’ and workers’ organizations, and enterprises considering offering EWA to their workforce.

This global research was coordinated by the ILO Global Centre on Digital Wages for Decent Work, engaging with over 40 stakeholders across Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the US—including government bodies, employers' and workers' organizations, and EWA providers. It involved researchers for four selected countries. The Three Fin Consulting team was responsible for the research at the global level. The research was complemented by end-user surveys conducted with 5 providers.
